TOTAL SERVICE & PRODUCT OVERVIEW
'Recycle & Re-use' services overview
- Reduce the amount of waste we produce.
- Re-use don't dispose - could someone else use it?
- Recycle, can it be made into something new?
Even though most of the components inside a PC are built to last for many years,
computers have one of the largest depreciation values in the consumer market due
to new technology production; resulting in the average 'used' life span of around
3-5 years for most computers.
Over 1 million computers end up in UK landfill sites every year and in 2004 alone,
UK businesses disposed of 2 million computers to landfill - that's less than 20%
of the UK's redundant computers being recycled!
Signals IT Ltd recognises that businesses need to have up to date technology but
it doesn't need to be at the cost of the earth.
Signals IT Ltd will take any size amounts of redundant IT equipment from businesses
and using our expert team of engineers. We will grade your redundant IT equipment
and put it to its best use by either:
- Refurbishing & Re-using your PCs either back within your company; or to be re-marketed
out to consumers, offering maximum returns back to your business. Or we can send
your PCs to developing countries, maximising their education opportunities.
- Recycling the parts of your computers that still have life back into your company's
IT equipment or remarketing them for resale.
- Disposing of each component according to the WEEE directive to minimize the impact
to the atmosphere.
Signals IT Ltd are certified to provide a complete computer recycling and disposal
solution for all redundant IT equipment and other electrical waste.
WEEE Directive
WEEE legislation covers all large and small household appliances, radio, audio,
IT and telecommunications equipment and electrical tools.
The Waste Electrical and
Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) was established to reduce the amount
of electrical and electronic waste going to landfill and to increase recycling/re-use
rates by placing responsibility on companies selling electrical equipment.
The directive
lays down specific standards for treatment, recycling and recovery operations, therefore
those companies have a duty of care and should establish an infrastructure for collecting
and the removal of WEEE.
For full details, please go to the NetRegs Website.
Because
Signals IT are passionate about the environment, we have been recycling and re-using
computing and electrical systems and components since we first started in 2003 and
have become experts in doing so. When the WEEE Directive came in we already had
a solid recycling infrastructure and were fully equipped and ready to follow the
directive's guidelines. To this day, we make WEEE legislation our priority. Please
contact us for our Weee Certification.

out to determine the next step in our asset recovery process.

requirements and the value and condition of your assets, we will advise you on the
next step for each piece of equipment; whether that's refurbishment, reuse or resale,
dismantle and recycle or securely destroy, whilst receiving comprehensive reporting
of your equipment through all stages of our process.
Disposal
At present, an estimated 1.5 million obsolete PCs get buried each year in landfill
sites. The problems of this mountain of waste are compounded by pollution from toxic
chemicals such as lead, arsenic and mercury.
Removing and disposing of your businesses
computer equipment is not as easy as throwing the equipment into a skip or donating
it to a charity. Your organisation is responsible for not only disposing of the
equipment in an environmentally correct manner but also ensuring that private /
confidential data has been completely destroyed.
Signal IT aims to simply remove
the hassles associated with IT disposal and provide our customers with a complete
peace of mind solution for the management of redundant IT equipment. Any item deemed
BER (beyond economical repair) and or stripped for parts is ultimately disposed
of. This involves:
- DecommissioningUnits are stripped to there component parts / materials and shipped
to a multitude of recycling centres who deal specifically with those components.
- Working Units (Not Desirable For Resale) These items may well be
useable and useful in developing countries, Signals IT regularly donate such items
to those that require them.
Signals IT NOT ship faulty / junk items abroad - Any faulty unit is disposed
of here in the UK in accordance with current WEEE regulations.

metals, glass and plastics are extracted. 5% of profit made from this process is
donated to a charity (Oxfam unwrap).

areas in where this re-use can benefit the client.
The cost of new hardware as opposed to reusing existing kit through refurbishment

ShipIT Coupler
In some customer environments you need to integrate your labelling solution with
your customers ERP or WMS systems without the need for your customer to commission
costly changes.
The software is designed to work offline or with limited connectivity, however,
a mechanism for delivering files to the coupler unit will be required. Once the
data is available the labels can be printed either automatically or from a scanner
or keyboard input.
A multi-threaded core at the centre of the system allows the Coupler to perform
actions simultaneously, thus allowing multiple scans/prints, file processing and
output (such as data files and manifests) to occur simultaneously.
The coupler employs a universal printing solution which allows the labels to be
printed to any type of printer and of labels of any suitable size (as opposed to
traditional printing solutions such as EPL/ZPL which are tied to specific printer
brands and models).
In order to support constantly changing business requirements the system separates
business logic and label definitions to allow for multiple rules/label definitions
to be used and updated via the web.
The software is capable of printing to any label printer both traditional barcodes
(such as Code128 and 3of9) and 2D PDF barcodes as required.
ShipIT Coupler Tool Diagram
The Coupler has been designed to sit on the customers network or PC, and interpret
files generated from their warehouse or ordering systems. This gets the right label
produced and passes the data back to the Shipping System with no human intervention.
EcoTrak
Here are just some of the headlines EcoTrak fuel saving software has been making:
- Ecotrak saves fuel for fleets
"EcoTrak was recognised in two categories
at the GreenFleet Awards
in 2008 for its ability to reduce fuel costs whilst reducing
carbon emissions."
Contract Hire and Leasing.com - Jan 2009, read more
- Haulage company saves £75K per year with EcoTrak Manufacturing
& Logistics IT - March 2009, read more
- Save up to £500 per vehicle per month Supa Trak Website - read more
With fuel representing, on average, 30% of total operating costs, improving your
fleet's fuel performance is more important now than ever before. The good news is
that unlike other overheads, fuel costs are not fixed. There are many variables
including driving style, mileage and type of vehicle that can all affect a fleet's
overall fuel bill. By understanding these factors and learning how to monitor and
manage them, significant cost savings can be achieved.
Many solutions have gone some way to help fleet operators manage their fuel consumption
and carbon emissions, but have been unable to provide actual fuel usage and at best,
give very poor or inaccurate estimates.
EcoTrak fuel saving technology has been developed in conjunction with the haulage
industry and commercial fleet operators to help businesses in the UK and Ireland
to realise fuel savings.
EcoTrak reports on driver and vehicle management parameters including miles per
gallon (MPG), speed, revolutions per minute (RPM), engine load, idling time and
time spent in cruise control, to name a few, using real time reporting of CANbus
information.
This information is collected by linking EcoTrak to the vehicle communication network
using two standard protocols: SAE J1979 for cars/vans and SAE J1939 for trucks/buses.
EcoTrak uses the vehicle's Controlled Area Network-CANbus-and there is no requirement
for FMS to be enabled.
It has been found that by managing these parameters, it is possible to improve your
fleet's overall performance and reduce costs.
Typical savings of between 10% and 20% are being achieved by providing fleet managers
and businesses owners with a simple to use fleet management tool.
EcoTrak+
Saving money through costs control has never been more important. EcoTrak+ is an
upgrade to EcoTrak that reduces fuel usage by an average of 10% in vehicles by re-mapping
the engine management system to provide more revs at lower torque.
With fuel costs representing 30% to 40% of any transport companies cost base this
product cannot be ignored. The software remapping and can be underwritten by Norwich
Union. Furthermore none of the changes affect the vehicles warranty.
When used in conjunction with the EcoTrak software savings in excess of 20% can
be achieved
